At Sacred Heart our provision for children includes
- Sunday Children’s Liturgy
Children begin Mass with their families, then are taken by the Liturgy Leaders to the Parish Hall, for their own Liturgy of the Word .
They return to the parish community at the Offertory to celebrate the Eucharist and the remainder of the Mass.
Liturgy groups are held at the 10.30am Mass, every week during term time, except the second Sunday of the month, which is a Children’s Mass. (See below)
- Youth Mass
The readings are read by the youngsters and the children are usually invited forward for their special homily.
At Christmas time the 6.00pm Mass on Christmas Eve and the 10.30am Mass on Christmas Day, and also the 10.30am Mass on Easter Sunday, are special Children’s Masses.
Special focus is given to the children on the second Sunday of each month, at the 10.30am Mass.
- Preparation for the Sacraments of Confession and First Holy Communion
The classes, run by our Catechists, are held in the Parish Hall on Saturday mornings, starting at 11.00am.
Children who have made their First Holy Communion are encouraged to develop their faith through serving on the altar.

Children in School Year 2 are invited to join a two year preparation course to receive the Sacraments of Confession and First Holy Communion.
